Quality management and innovation: A literature review
Quality management and innovation: A literature review
Índice
The aim of this paper is to identify the number of articles published on quality management (QM) and innovation, the main findings about the relationship between QM and innovation, the methodologies most often applied, the countries that have contributed most to this area, and the dimensions of innovative performance. The paper thus provides a review of articles about QM and innovation based on a computer search in three databases, namely ScienceDirect, ABI/Inform and Emerald. In addition, in order to identify the dimensions of innovative performance, this computer search was expanded to include QMperformance studies. The results show (1) the journals most likely to publish this type of paper; (2) that QM may have positive effects on innovation, although certain QM practices are key in this link (e.g., leadership, people management, customer focus); (3) more papers are empirical rather than theoretical, and it will be important to combine qualitative and quantitative data in future research; (4) the most productive countries in this field; and (5) the most commonly used or identified dimensions of innovative performance in the literature: product and process innovation.
