O movimento da qualidade tem tido importantes desenvolvimentos ao longo dos séculos XX e XXI. As drásticas e frequentes alterações nas tecnologias, nas economias e nas sociedades levantam várias questões, muito consensuais, relacionadas com os perfis dos profissionais e as competências necessárias. As áreas de investigação variam bastante, abrangendo diversos temas, com mais incidência em estudo de casos, menos na conceção de metodologias e muito pouco na construção de teorias próprias. Assim, o papel da Investigação e Desenvolvimento (I&D) ainda não está bem definido, o que se compreende pela natureza transversal e multidisciplinar da temática da gestão da qualidade.
Neste artigo, pretende-se averiguar a necessidade de teorias específicas, trazendo à discussão algumas preocupações e desafios, com recurso a meta-análises e outros estudos de síntese, tendo por base a experiência dos autores desta investigação, enquanto editores da Revista TMQ – Techniques, Methodologies and Quality. É nessa qualidade que, neste trabalho, se apresentam, em termos conclusivos, algumas recomendações, com vista a ajudar a definir linhas de investigação e a escolher temas, bem como a escrever melhores artigos e a argumentar os contributos teóricos para a gestão da qualidade.
António Ramos Pires has received a PhD from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology – Nova University of Lisbon – Portugal. He was President of the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ), and Chairman of Board of the Portuguese Association for Quality (APQ. His research interests are in the areas of process management, design and development.
Margarida Saraiva has received a PhD. from ISCTE Business School – Portugal in 2004. She is currently Assistant Professor at the Management Department of the University of Évora – Portugal and researcher at BRU-UNIDE/ISCTE-IUL. Her research interests are in the areas of quality and management.
