A questão das futuras competências dos profissionais de qualidade tem sido discutida e as perspetivas apontam para o seu alargamento, incluindo o processamento de dados (Inteligência Analítica). No entanto, o âmbito de aplicação permanece essencialmente o mesmo (monitorização dos processos), deixando uma grande área descoberta, exatamente aquelas que são mais críticas (interface com mercado, design para emoções). As áreas tradicionais de apoio ao controlo e gestão de qualidade (Engenharia e Gestão Industrial) estão a lutar para manter a liderança, com os principais contributos a serem dados pelas ciências da computação, marketing, psicologia. Estas preocupações assumem várias denominações exemplificadoras de funcionalidades, também refletem incerteza e precocidade. Sobre o futuro das associações para a qualidade, num mundo empresarial e social em profunda transformação, as estruturas associativas dos profissionais da qualidade estão em sérias dificuldades em encontrar o seu caminho para a utilidade e responsabilidade social. Não existem estudos ou investigadores conhecidos que se tenham focado em serviços, competências técnicas e científicas existentes e futuras. No entanto, o conhecimento acumulado mostra que muitas associações estão reduzidas a estruturas burocráticas, sendo urgente pesquisar a missão e redefinir estratégias que possam responder às necessidades das pessoas e das organizações do nosso tempo.
António Ramos Pires has received a PhD from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology – New University of Lisbon – Portugal). He was President of the Portuguese Quality Institute (IPQ), President of the Board of the Portuguese Association for Quality (APQ). He is President of the Board of the Quality Research Network (RIQUA). His research interests are in the areas of process management, design and development.
