A comunidade/movimento da qualidade deve tornar-se mais hábil na observação da envolvente, procurando atribuir sentido e significado a observações divergentes, controversas e por vezes contraditórias. É mais importante discutir as falhas do que ir à procura do sucesso garantido. À medida que as “inovações” /transformações emergem, as suas implicações precisam ser examinadas criticamente para determinar os seus potenciais efeitos no corpo de conhecimentos da qualidade, que podem ter de ser remodelados. Mas, este corpo de conhecimento não é claro, nem tem fronteiras bem definidas. O desenvolvimento técnico e científico dos suportes ao movimento da qualidade surge como o caminho mais nobre dos que investigam nas áreas daqualidade e afins. Se as emoções estão identificadas, de longa data, como relevantes, as metodologias para lidar com elas, logo na conceção dos produtos e serviços, ainda têm contributos limitados. Alguns ensinamentos (insights) para melhorar o trabalho de investigação e os respetivos resultados foram compilados. A distinção entre teoria e modelo é discutida. Em termos conclusivos, sublinha-se que sem algum tipo de pressão para o desenvolvimento teórico, o campo da gestão da qualidade pode estagnar no empirismo de casos isolados.
António Ramos Pires has received a PhD from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology – New University of Lisbon – Portugal). He was President of the Portuguese Quality Institute (IPQ), President of the Board of the Portuguese Association for Quality (APQ). He is President of the Board of the Quality Research Network (RIQUA). His research interests are in the areas of process management, design and development.
